I have always been drawn to highly detailed micro and shelf layouts, especially Inglenook shunting puzzles,
My goal is to build a compact exhibition standard DCC layout based on the small former Hile Transport yard at Rocklea.
The scenic section of the baseboard measures: 200mm x 1550mm with a curved 300m high back scene and "post-box" style fascia top and bottom.
The key features will include:
1 Open sided steel shed - based on the now demolished Hile Transport open sided steel framed shed behind Rocklea Station.
2 Grounded ALY body - based on the grounded ALY body that has been a feature of the Northern end of Rocklea Station for a couple of decades.
3 Relocated QR 22ft Goods Shed - now also demolished, this standard weatherboard QR 22ft Good Shed was relocated to the Southern (Railway Parade) end of the yard when the Hile Transport shed was constructed in the early 1980s.
4 Creek (Rocky Water Hole) - based on the small creek called Rocky Water Hole that actually wiggles its way along the back of the industrial area behind Rocklea Station. For scenic interest I have "re-routed" the creek so it crosses the Beenleigh Line just before the Beaudesert Road overpass.
5 Industrial building (Demolition yard) - A generic 1970s cream brick facade shed with a corrugated iron rear walls and louvered windows (possible demolition yard cameo with stacks of reclaimed timber and old windows)
6 Concrete overpass (Beaudesert Road) - Pre-cast concrete overpass with concrete interlocking panel abutment walls.
7 Billboard back - Back of a large cantilevered billboard (mounted on the abutment wall).
8 Trestle Bridge - based on the existing timber trestle bridge that runs over Rock Water Hole at the rear of the old Commonwealth Engineering works located on the other side of the Beaudesert Road overpass.
9 Low Relief Industrial Buildings - based on the existing industrial rear facades that back on to the Beenleigh Line (up line) just South of Rocklea station.
